How it works
The mid-parental method averages both parents' heights and adds 6.5 cm for boys or subtracts 6.5 cm for girls; real adult height falls within about 8.5 cm of that figure for most children.
Frequently asked questions
How reliable is it?
Genetics explain roughly 80% of height, so the estimate is usually within a few centimetres — but nutrition and health matter too.
Does it work for teenagers?
It predicts final adult height regardless of current age, so it works at any point in childhood.
