How it works

SHA hashes are computed with the browser's built-in Web Crypto API; MD5 uses a small JavaScript implementation. Your text is hashed locally and never leaves the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hash be reversed?

No. Hashing is one-way. Attackers can only guess inputs and compare hashes, which is why weak passwords still fall to dictionary attacks.

Is MD5 still safe?

Not for security. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken against collision attacks — use SHA-256 or stronger for signatures, integrity checks, and tokens.
